Obama's Dept. of Labor plots the death of the family farm

Obama's Dept. of Labor plots the death of the family farm

Either way the family farm is trapped. If they don't incorporate. they lose their farm (or most of it) in 1 or 2 generations due to federal inheritance taxes. If they incorporate, then thie children under 18 will be nearly prevented from being able to work on the farm by new Dept. of Labor guidelines. what is the basis of these guidelines? Are they a re-interpretation of the child labor laws of 100 years ago? Are they based on the U.N.'s International Agreement on the Rights of the Child (Which was not passed by the Senate - the one good thing that I can say for the U.S. Senate.) Or is this an example of the executive branch violating the Constitution and taking over Congress's role of creating legislation?

Could this be a more subtle way of accomplishing what Stalin did in Russia in the 1930's through mass starvation - the destruction of the independent-minded farmers. In Russia this resulted in foor shortages for nearly 50 years - Russia and Ukraine had been the breadbasket of Europe but were still dependent on American Wheat imports in the 1970's and early 80's, 50 years after the destruction of the independent farms.

Thirty senators are calling on Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to withdraw immediately proposed federal rules that would limit the work that young people can perform on farms. Led by Sens. Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), the senators have asked Solis to rethink her department’s “misguided” attempt to revise child labor laws for agriculture. - TheHill.com
